The populaire is our "introduction to randonneuring" ride. Bring a friend and meet new people along the route as we pass favorite coffee shops and bakeries in Seattle and the east side. There will be no SIR services provided along the route, but there are plenty of on or near route opportunities to indulge along the way.
We will start at the Starbucks in the Town Center at Lake Forest Park, head east on the Burke Gilman Trail, and wander over Juanita to Kirkland with optional stops in Market Square (Café Rococco, French Bakery, Starbucks) before we cross the new 520 bridge. Once back in Seattle, we will meander through the arboretum (passing close to Belle Epicurean) on our way to the services at Leschi (Starbucks) and then across the I90 floating bridge. From the bridge, we will have a manned (but unsupported) stop at Anchorhead Coffee before touching Issaquah (Issaquah Coffee Company, Forest Fairy Bakery), then through Redmond (Peet’s Coffee, Top Pot Donuts, Starbucks) on our way back to the finish at the Beer 192 beer garden.
This is an unsupported ride. You are expected to be able to be self-sufficient in the event you get a flat tire or need to perform a routine repair on your bicycle. The group doesn't necessarily ride together the whole time – be sure to get a cue sheet at the start, or download the GPS track in advance, so you can navigate on your own. That said, the randonneurs are a friendly bunch (if we do say so ourselves), and we'd be happy to ride with you or lend a hand.
The finish is at Beer 192 along the trail, where riders will hang out to share food and drink.
