This brevet is mainly an out-and-back with a loop west of Port Angeles. The route starts with a bucolic meander on Sawdust and Big Valley Roads. We cross the Hood Canal Bridge and soon leave the highway for quiet Larsen Lake and Eaglemount Roads. From Discovery Bay the route uses the several segments of tranquil Old Gardiner Rd wherever possible. In Blyn we pick up the Olympic Discovery Trail, remaining on it for many of the miles to the Elwha River, where we cross on the trail's unique bike bridge. After touching salt water at Crescent Beach the route climbs over the hills to Crescent Lake. Returning to Port Angeles we climb a few kilometers of gravel on Little River Rd to the route's high point, then enjoy a ripping descent on Hurricane Ridge Rd into Port Angeles. The return route largely retraces the outbound route. In Blyn we use the pedestrian tunnel under US-101 to cross to the eastbound side of 101, and stay on 101 instead of making left turns to Old Gardiner Rd.

The route finishes at the AM/PM in Kingston, very close to the ferry terminal. The finish will not be SIR-staffed. Riders will mail their completed cards to the organizer using supplied envelopes.

This brevet will have very little SIR support. There are plenty of stores and restaurants along much of the route. After Blyn (or Discovery Bay for faster riders) there are no services.

Route Sheet: Route Sheet

Start Location:
Starbucks
8196 Hwy 104
Kingston, WA
Directions: 2.7 miles from the Kingston ferry dock. Ride off the ferry and continue up Highway 104. The Starbucks is on the left at the traffic light with Miller Bay Rd.
Why are we starting here? Under ACP rules you get 20 hours no matter how long the route actually is. This start location removes 4.5 km vs starting at the ferry landing. No businesses will be open near the ferry landing to provide caffeine and restroom services. And the volunteers want a nice venue to idle away the hour the start is required to be open.

Start Time: 06:45
Check-in opens approximately 06:30, and will be available aboard the ferry

Riders coming from the Seattle side of the Sound should take the 0535 ferry from Edmonds to Kingston. Purchase your bike ticket in the passenger terminal or online. The ferry arrives at approximately 0605, giving you 40 minutes to ride to the start, check in, and deal with any problems. The start is open until 0745. You can catch the 0620 ferry and still make a late start.

Parking in Edmonds:
Overnight paid parking near the Edmonds ferry terminal is available at the U-Park lot at Sunset & James (accessed from James):  https://www.parkme.com/lot/186594/71-main-st

Parking in Kingston:
You might prefer to bring your car across to Kingston and park in the Park & Ride just north of the start location, past the shopping center, at 27618 Hansville Rd.

End Location:
ARCO AM/PM
10951 NE State Hwy 104
Kingston, WA
(Shows on Google Maps as a BP, but is in fact an ARCO station.)

Riders staying at The Point Casino Hotel may instead ride directly to the hotel and have their cards signed there.

Post-ride: Returning to Edmonds or overnighting
The course closes at 0245 Sunday. The last ferry to Edmonds leaves at 2305 Saturday. 16-hour finishers will be able to catch the last ferry.
Riders anticipating requiring much more than 16 hours should plan overnight accommodations. The Point Casino is the nearest hotel, about 5 miles away. (As of 7/11 no rooms are available at the casino.) Hot food service is available at the casino until 0200, and cold sandwiches and snacks are available until 0400.

The Bainbridge-Seattle ferry is another option. It is 18 miles to the Bainbridge ferry terminal. The last ferry to Seattle leaves at 0125

Motels in Poulsbo are about 10 miles away. Motels are also available in Silverdale and Bremerton. You will probably want your car to use these options.

A final overnight option is to sleep in your car in the Park & Ride lot.
