The Summer Populaire - 7/10/2010

You’ve done the ‘epic’ rides; Untold mountain passes, temps in the 90’s, and the 30’s, torrential rains, gale force winds, and crawled across the desert sands, so what’s left?  How about a pleasant ride of 100K over the back roads of Thurston County?

Route Sheet

 Description

This is your chance to be an ambassador for randonneuring, a chance for a pleasant ride with your spouse, your SO, your neighbor, your kid for cryin′ out loud, or just someone you know who has expressed an interest but has been intimidated by the notion of rides that tally up hundreds of miles, thousands of feet of elevation, and multiple days.  Consider a trip to Olympia to ride the summer populaire.

We will start at the Fish Tail Brew Pub, at the civilized hour of 9:00am.  The Brew pub won’t be open so make your bathroom break before you get to the start (there is a McDonalds’ that will be open, just 3 blocks south on Plum Street)

The route quickly exits the city proper and in no time you’ll find yourself rolling through the countryside.  Stretches on Rainier road, the Skookumchuck River and valley are extraordinary and offer ample opportunity for riding while chatting.  Not to say that hammerheads are not allowed, but think before you shift into that higher gear; this could be a great opportunity to show your human side, and maybe make some new friends.  Après ride at Fish Tale Brew Pub never fails to please.
